A ground-breaking scheme launches today to place military and uniformed veterans from black and minority ethnic communities into key roles across the public and private sectors.
‘TriPotential’ is the brainchild of two pioneering leaders – former police chief Kul Mahay (pictured right) and award-winning army veteran Samuel T. Reddy (pictured left) – both from BAME and Commonwealth backgrounds, with personal experience of the challenges they want others to overcome.
The not-for-profit business will place BAME and Commonwealth men and women into meaningful employment after leaving the armed forces or blue light sector – and develop their leadership potential through training and mentoring.
The scheme is also designed to help address problems faced by employers in attracting and retaining high calibre staff from diverse backgrounds.
TriPotential Co-Founder, Kul Mahay, said today:
“Military and uniformed veterans are highly trained individuals, who have worked in pressured environments, and are accustomed to rigour and discipline. Yet, many of them struggle to cope with life outside when they leave the forces – myself included. We’re determined to help channel these fantastic people, with amazing skills, into key roles – and make them leaders.”
TriPotential will support veterans to transition along one of three pathways:
- Transferring between uniformed services
- To become self-sufficient through entrepreneurship
- To embark upon graduate training with associated universities
The scheme will recruit and develop a pool of individuals and help them find new roles, either with another uniformed service – the military, police, fire, or prison service – or into other organisations. Since leaving the police force and army, Sam and Kul have both pursued careers in leadership and management. TriPotential combines their skills and experiences to help change lives.
TriPotential Co-Founder, Samuel Reddy, said today:
“This is a radical, and much-needed approach. Our pool of BAME and Commonwealth staff will be developed, nurtured, and placed with some excellent partner organisations across many sectors. This will not only increase retention and representation of ethnic minorities within organisations – but is bound to bring about cognitive diversity and help achieve positive cultural change across the UK.”
Kul and Sam are currently working with community, business, and career leaders to establish a network of partner organisations across many sectors. It already has the backing of organisations and various universities, including Top 100 UK law firm Hugh James.
Partner and Head of Hugh James’ Military team, Simon Ellis, said today:
“This is a fantastic scheme and we’re delighted to lend our support. We represent many armed forces veterans who struggle to find work in civilian life. And, that pressure is hardest felt by our BAME and Commonwealth clients. The TriPotential programme offers effective and practical solutions that are life-changing and ones that will make a real difference in our communities.”
