The Hugh James Clinical Negligence team and Divisional Head, Stephen Webber, were recognised for their achievements at last night’s 2020 Personal Injury Awards – the leading annual awards ceremony for the sector.
Stephen Webber was crowned ‘Clinical Negligence Lawyer of the Year’ – with judges describing him as a “technically gifted lawyer” who “stood out” for contributing “so much to the Personal Injury sector.” Steve is a Partner and Divisional Head of Individual Services for the UK Top 100 law firm and has worked as a Clinical Negligence Lawyer since qualifying in 1996.
The firm also scooped ‘Clinical Negligence Team of the Year’ – the second year in a row – with judges praising their “exceptional teamwork, holistic approach to casework and creative support during the COVID pandemic.” The team continued to work through some high-profile cases during the pandemic and were able to rise above the inevitable challenges. This included a landmark win in the first clinical negligence trial to take place ‘in-person’ during lockdown.
Speaking of their double award success, Stephen Webber commented today:
“I’m incredibly proud of the entire team, but not at all surprised at their win again this year. I’m constantly amazed by their passion, commitment, and drive and it’s an honour to work with such a talented bunch of people. For me, it is both fantastic and humbling to accept the ‘Clinical Negligence Lawyer of the Year’ award. I went into this area of law 26 years ago to support others at a time in their life when they need it most and I feel as passionate today about this vocation as I did back then.”
Hugh James Head of Medical Negligence, Mari Rosser, said today:
“I’m delighted that the team has won again this year which has been a stand-out year in so many ways. It really is a huge achievement to have got so many difficult and complex cases over the line in this environment. I’ve been amazed at the team’s work ethic and sheer stamina. The team is also so pleased for Steve. He is a brilliant lawyer who is not only totally committed to his clients, but also has worked tirelessly in the wider clinical negligence community through his work with SCIL.”
