Matthew’s story
Matthew was involved in a motorcycle crash aged 21 where he sustained severe leg injuries. He developed compartment syndrome whilst in hospital, but this diagnosis was delayed, and he ultimately had to undergo a below the knee amputation. Following the amputation, Matthew faced numerous challenges in his recovery including pain, swelling, and psychological trauma.
Despite disagreements between experts, the court ultimately accepted the evidence recognising the severity of Matthew’s injuries and their lifelong implications. The substantial compensation of £4.6 million awarded to Matthew aims to address his current and future needs, allowing him to access the necessary support and resources to navigate life with his disability. Despite the challenges he faces, Matthew’s resilience and determination shine through as he seeks to rebuild his life and embrace new opportunities.
