Working Together to End Road Death and Injury

Now in its third year, the RoadPeace challenge will take place on May 15-21, 2023 during UN Global Road Safety week.

RoadPeace is a national charity for road crash victims and provides information and support to people bereaved or seriously injured in road crashes. It receives no Government funding and relies solely on sponsorship and donations to do this invaluable work.

Every day, on average around 5 people die and hundreds more are injured in collisions on our roads, destroying families and changing lives forever.

In 2021 alone, 27,450 people were reported killed or seriously injured on Britain’s roads. If these deaths or serious injuries from road traffic crashes were a cancer, they would represent the fifth leading new cancer diagnosis in the UK. At Hugh James we have supported RoadPeace for many years and are proud members of their legal panel for South & Mid Wales and the East Midlands.

if you would like to speak to one of our specialist serious injury solicitors, then please get in contact with us.

Throughout the course of this week, there is a theme each day:

  • Monday May 15: Effective Collision Investigations
  • Tuesday May 16: Language Matters: Crash not Accident
  • Wednesday May 17: Prioritising Vehicle Safety Technology
  • Thursday May 18: Slower Speeds to Enable Active Travel
  • Friday May 19 : Protecting Novice Driver’s: Graduated at Driver License
  • Saturday May 20 : Challenging the Pursued Right to Drive/Driving is a Privilege not a Right.

The week will conclude with a memorial service at the National Memorial Arboretum, Staffordshire – an event called “Victims Voices”.

Ciaran McCabe, Partner in the Serious Injury Department at Hugh James and Joint Head of the National Serious Injury Department said:
“Our support for Road Peace has developed over many years and we are very proud to be members of their legal panel. This week is an important one for Road Peace and we will be supporting them between 15-21 May across our network of offices. We have organised various events in the firm including a Wear Purple day on Tuesday May 16th and other fundraising for Road Peace events across the week”.
