We’re delighted to have advised The Port of Milford Haven on its purchase of the luxury St Brides Spa Hotel, located in Saundersfoot, Pembrokeshire.
The investment includes a management agreement with The Celtic Collection to manage and operate the hotel on the Port’s behalf.
This new acquisition enhances the Port’s hospitality and tourism portfolio, marking the second investment the Hugh James team has facilitated for the Port, following its 2021 investment in Tŷ Hotel Milford Waterfront.
Gerallt Jones, Partner and head of our Corporate/Commercial team, led the team working on the deal, which included Partner and Head of Commercial Property Peter Hurn and Corporate/Commercial Senior Associate Gemma Davies.
Gerallt said:
“We’re thrilled to collaborate again with The Port of Milford Haven to support further investment in the hospitality and tourism sector in South Wales. After supporting the Port on its first hotel investment at Milford Waterfront, we have no doubt that the acquisition of St Brides Spa Hotel, with its iconic infinity pool known around the world, will be equally as successful. We’re excited to see the diversification of the Port and the additional benefits its partnership with The Celtic Collection will bring to this stunning coastal location.”
Jonathan Chitty, Chief Financial Officer at the Port of Milford Haven, commented:
“We have once again been impressed by the professionalism of the Hugh James team. The strength and depth in the team along with the experience and insight of Gerallt, Peter and Gemma has been exceptional throughout this transaction.
“This investment marks another important step in our diversification strategy to make the Port a stronger business for the benefit of all our stakeholders. In the past, we have been highly dependent on the oil and gas sector, a commodities market that is prone to fluctuation and outside of our control. Our investment in St Brides Spa Hotel also allows us, through our partnership with The Celtic Collection, to promote the fantastic coastal community of Saundersfoot and support Visit Pembrokeshire’s ambition for the county to become a top 5 UK destination choice.”
